the process
I shoot using the latest digital SLR cameras, using natural and studio lighting techniques and working both in a studio set-up and exterior locations (when the weather permits).
I aim for most shoots to last between 2-4 hours, allowing for a couple of clothing, makeup, hair styles or a change in location/setups to get the very most out of a single sitting.
By using a digital camera, you will be able to see the style and tone of the snaps straight away and, location allowing, the photos can be displayed straight away on a computer monitor, where a preview of different b&w or colour tones can be explored for your consideration in the post production process.
After the sitting, I will narrow down the pictures to what I think are the best 15-20 and give those shots any airbrushing, retouching, colour balancing and sizing (8x10) they may require.
All of the shots taken on the day will be mailed to you on a DVD (within 7 working days) with these finalised photos being found in a separate folder on the disc. Once you receive the DVD, you then have the option of having a further 5 photos either retouched from scratch or adjust any existing “processed” photos to your wishes. Just email me the files names and what you would like done and I’ll do the rest. This is all included in the price.
I can provide prints at an additional cost, but I would recommend, for your convenience & ease, to use a printing house for batch printing. The photo DVDs can be processed in a shorter time for an additional fee.
I aim to make the whole process as easy and straight forward as possible, and to make sure that you are going to end up with the photos YOU want!

the typical shoot
Preparation
Try to get a good night’s sleep and don’t be hung over, make sure your skin is relatively clear and try to be relaxed as possible. Your hair should be nice and clean and eyebrows neat. Don’t be tempted to use “rejuvenating” eye drops, they usually create a glaze which doesn’t transfer well to the camera (I can bring out eye colour in post production if needed or requested).
What to bring for headshots...
Ladies
A range of different tops with different necklines - V necks and medium circular necklines tend to work well in simple colours such as black, white and blues. Bring as many as you like, there will be time to shoot a variety. Arrive with minimal makeup on - if you feel you need it - foundation, concealer, eyeliner and mascara. There will be decent sized mirror available if you wish to do this once you have arrived. Basically, come how you would appear for an audition, or would like to be perceived when the shots hit all those directors’ desks!
Men
Again, it’s a good idea to bring a few different colour and styled shirts (black, white and blue works well, long and short sleeved in both T-shirt and formal collard styles). You may also want to bring a jumper or jacket to add the layered look. Try and stay away from crazy patterns but the linen or Tudor style “thespian” shirts can be a nice look.
Full Length shots
If you wish to have full length shots taken, it is up to you how you want to style yourself. I can offer the advice that simple, smart-casual and evening wear works well without any fuss. If you do want to go along the high fashion look then feel free! I can be contacted before hand to discuss and thoughts or questions you have as to what would work well in those cases.
Portraits
I also take portrait photography, which differs greatly from the headshot style of photos as I always include an essence of the model/ subject which often takes the form of the location the shoot takes place in or an activity or object (musical instrument etc) that is also in the picture. The process is a bit different from simpler headshots and the ability to meet and discuss what makes you... you will make the difference.
My style of portraits IS NOT like the very clean and factory processed style of the companies you usually get in the entrance way of supermarkets, but is of a “gritty” and real expression of you
